FEES & EXPENSES
Initial Consultation: For those who do not know if they require
an attorney and are unsophisticated with the legal practice, I usually
do not charge for my time in an interview of up to thirty minutes
to listen to the potential client, evaluate the concern and advise
whether I feel I can be of assistance. I will continue to observe
this practice.
NORMAL FEES & EXPENSES
Because courts only respect legal bills of lawyers who punch the
clock, most of my time, except in the contingent fee cases, is based
upon an hourly charge. My hourly charges run from $170.00 to $260
per hour. I charge $170.00 per hour for office consultation time
and $260 per hour for court room time, mediations, arbitrations,
depositions, research and out of the office investigations, inspections
and related maters. Time spent out of the King, Pierce, Snohomish
and Thurston Counties in the State of Washington will be charged
on a per-diem basis with a minimum per diem charge of eight hours.
A minimum of four hours will be charged for any travel to Snohomish,
Pierce and Thurston Counties. My fees include travel time. Hourly
fees out of this four county area will be more. All expenses are
extra, from copy costs at cost or $.10 which ever is more, $.30 for
actual auto milage when I drive, any actual costs of travel, hotel
rooms, long distance telephone calls and other typical office and
business expenses.
COSTS OF INVESTIGATORS, EXPERTS, CONTRACT ATTORNEYS AND PARA-PROFESSIONALS:
Fees for the time of contact para-professionals, contract attorneys,
expert witnesses, and investigators will be charged at costs plus
25% for my time in supervision and administration.
CONTINGENT FEE CASES:
From time to time I do take cases on a contingent fee basis, where
there appears some likelihood of recovery from a defendant who can
pay the possible recovery. The range of the contingency will be from
30% to 50% depending on the amount of the recovery and how difficult
I perceive the case to be. These contingent fees do not normally
cover legal fees for any appeal, whether taken by the client or the
other parties to the action. These contingent fees do not cover the
costs involved in pursuing these matters which always remain the
responsibility of the client and I may call upon the client at any
time to reimburse me for those costs or advance costs. Costs and
Expenses, include, by way of example only, these items: (1) filing
and process service fees; (2) expert witness fees; (3) court reporter
and transcript fees; (4) any item required by law to be paid as court
costs; (5) long distance telephone charges; (6) travel costs including
meals and lodging, where such travel is reasonably required by the
client's business; (7) on line research charges for such services
as Lexus and WestLaw; fees for investigators and investigation costs;
(9) and all other out of pocket expenses devoted directly to the
client's cause.
